For physicians

Refer a patient for a cannabis evaluation

If you have a patient whose pain, sleep, appetite or spasticity has not responded well enough to conventional treatment, you can send them to us for a medical cannabis assessment. They come back to you.

Your patient stays your patient

We assess for cannabis only. We do not take over their care, we do not change the rest of their treatment, and we do not ask them to move practices. You get a letter with what was prescribed and why, so it is in their file with you.

What happens to your patient

  1. 1They request an evaluation and complete a medical intake with their history and consent.
  2. 2They meet one of our physicians by video, in English or Spanish.
  3. 3If cannabis is appropriate, they receive a prescription and the documentation that goes with it.
  4. 4You receive a letter saying what was prescribed and why.
  5. 5They continue with you for everything else.

The legal position

Law 10113 created a legal route for medicinal cannabis in Costa Rica. Access runs through a licensed physician and a registered prescription filled at a pharmacy. Eligibility stays a clinical decision — a diagnosed qualifying condition, and conventional treatment that has not given enough relief.

Nothing is paid, in either direction

We do not pay you for a referral and we will not accept one from you. Article 79 of the Code of Medical Ethics forbids it, and we would not want the relationship to work that way regardless. If you are ever offered a commission for sending a patient somewhere, it should tell you something.

Send us a patient

With your patient’s agreement. We contact them — you do not have to chase it.

Or just give them the link

If you would rather not pass on their details, send your patient here and they can start themselves. Tell them to mention your name.
